The Open Gardens weekend takes place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June 2019.

It's that time of year again when Abbotskerswell gardeners are busy preparing a gorgeous feast for the eyes, and cake makers are working on their plans for the lovely teas in Church House.

2019 will be the twelfth year that the parish has taken part in the National Gardens Scheme. This year eight gardens and the allotments will be open. The gardens range from large to small, traditional to Modern. There is something for all tastes, with lots of interest for both keen gardeners and those who just like looking at gardens.

As usual, Church House will be open on both days for brilliant teas and cakes. At several of the gardens there will be addiitonal attractions of plant, produce and book sales.

The National Gardens Scheme is in its ninety-second year. In the last ten years alone it has raised more than £25m for the charities it supports. This year, over £3m will go to the scheme's selected charities. It is the largest single donor to Macmillan Cancer Support, for which it has raised almost £15m and Marie Curie Cancer Care, almost £7m. Among the other charities which benefot from the scheme are Hospice UK, Parkingson's UK and the MS Society.

In addition to its charity donations, the NGS sponsors work on gardening and health. Every penny of the admission price and proceeds from sales go to charity - none goes to the gardeners - and the scheme's running costs are met through sponsorship.
